The European wolf spider name Lycosa accentuata Latreille, 1817, has had a long and convoluted nomenclatural history. interpretation of the baffled arachnologists for more than two centuries. Here we describe historical development evolving interpretations show that is certainly not senior synonym Alopecosa barbipes (Sundevall, 1833) or A. farinosa (Herman, 1879). To stabilise nomenclature, select neotype consistent with original description; consequently confirmed as junior subjective Araneus trabalis Clerck, 1757, valid (Clerck, 1757). This action helps to finally nomenclature an important species pair great interest evolutionary conservation biology.
